Sister Madeline Therese McCann
Sister Madeline Therese, Margaret Rose McCann, died suddenly at Corpus Christi Convent in Evansville, Saturday morning, April 20, 1968, of a coronary heart attack.

Sister was a native of Joliet, Ill., born March 20, 1903. Her parents were Nora Sullivan and James McCann. She entered the Sisters of Providence in 1921, and taught at St. Catherine’s in Indianapolis; at St. Mel, St. Columbkille, and Maternity B.V.M. in Chicago; and in the East. Her last appointment was at Corpus Christi Convent in Evansville.
Sister Madeline Therese was always a quiet, timid person. Her mother died suddenly in her presence when she was very young and the childhood shock made her timid and fearful all her life. She was at east, however, in her school room and won the affection of her children. She taught all the day preceding her death, but complained of feeling ill. She was prevailed upon to stay in bed for the day, and while one of the Sisters went to prepare a breakfast tray for her, she heard the sound of Sister’s fall on the floor near her bed. Dr. Vondervaar was called and pronounced her dead, but since she had had no attending physician since September, it was necessary to have the Coroner come to certify her death of a coronary heart attack.
She is survived by one brother, Arthur McCann of Tucson, Ariz. Sister Gonzaga, SP, her sister, died on July 5, 1963.
Requiem Mass was offered in Corpus Christi Church on April 22, and the remains were then brought by the Pierre Undertaking establishment to Saint Mary-of-the-Woods, where the funeral services took place on Tuesday morning, April 23. Reverend John O’Connor of Evansville, and Reverend Paul Sweeney, Chaplain at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods, concelebrated at the Mass and conducted the burial service.
