“Our associates are carrying the Sisters of Providence charism of love, mercy and justice to places we are not. Our associates are sincerely and intentionally living out the mission of the Sisters of Providence, honoring Divine Providence.”
– Sister Diane Mason, former director of Providence Associates

cathy-rita-clairAre you being called to a deeper relationship with the Sisters of Providence of Saint Mary-of-the-Woods as a Providence Associate?

How to apply

Applications are accepted from Feb. 1 to May 31 each year. Fill out the form at the bottom of this page or contact Debbie Dillow, co-director of Providence Associates, at 317-250-3294 or ddillow@spsmw.org to request an application.

The process

After your application is accepted, you will be assigned a Sister of Providence or Providence Associate companion to journey with you. (You can request your favorite sister or associate and we will try to make it work!) Your candidate year will begin with an orientation day in October.

Over the next year,  you and your companion will meet regularly to discuss readings on key aspects of the Sisters of Providence life and mission. If by the end of the year you and the Congregation discern this is a good fit, you will make your first commitment as Providence Associate in mid-November. You commit for one year and may choose to renew this commitment in coming years.

“The candidate-associate year is an excellent time to grow in your faith and understanding of the Providence of God. You have a spiritual companion (either sister or associate) that journeys with you, deepening your faith and theirs. The candidacy year is encouraging and life-giving because of the faith-filled interactions between you and your companion, other candidates, associates and sisters. It’s awesome!”
– Diane Weidenbenner, Providence Associate, Terre Haute, Indiana
