Biography
Sister Serena was born Jennie Cecilia Ziolkowski on April 13, 1918. She died on Dec. 13, 2008. She was 90 years old and had been a Sister of Providence for 72 years.
Sister Serena entered the Congregation on July 16, 1936. She professed first and final vows on Jan. 23, 1939 and 1945, respectively.
She began her teaching ministry at Our Lady of Mercy, Chicago, in 1939. She taught at other schools in Illinois, as well as schools in Indiana and California. She ministered for one year as the assistant to the communicating coordinator at the Woods and three years as the curriculum coordinator for the Diocese of Gary in Indiana. She also taught in New Hampshire.
Sister Serena returned home to the Woods in 1987, but managed to find time to take care of St. Ann Shell Chapel and tutor students.
