Sister Monica Withem

Biography

Sister Monica, formerly Sister Patricia Ann, was born Monica Withem on April 17, 1914. She died on June 9, 2007. She was 93 years old and had been a Sister of Providence for 74 years.

Sister Monica entered the Congregation on Feb. 10, 1933. She professed first and final vows on Aug. 15, 1935 and 1941, respectively.

Her teaching ministry began in 1934 at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods Village School. She taught at other schools in Indiana, as well as schools in Illinois and California. In 1963, she began ministering at Colegio San Jose in Arequipa, Peru. After returning to the United States, she served as a receptionist in the Archdiocesan Office of Education in Indianapolis, and in 1980, she served as a pastoral associate in Indianapolis.

She returned home to the Woods in 2003 to begin a ministry of prayer.
