Biography

Sister Maureen was born Genevieve Marie Loonam on June 1, 1916. She died on May 21, 2010. She was 93 years old and had been a Sister of Providence for 76 years.

Sister Maureen entered the Congregation on Feb. 10, 1934. She professed first and final vows on Aug. 15, 1936 and 1941, respectively.

Sister Maureen began her teaching ministry at Sacred Heart, Evansville, Ind., in 1936. She taught or was principal at other schools in Indiana and also spent six years at St. Agnes, Chicago. After taking a year sabbatical, she was asked to direct the Summer Institute at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College, and from 1986 to 1989, she ministered in the library at the college. She also ministered as the coordinator of the Sisters of Providence Resource Center from 1989 to 2007.

During her time with the Summer Institute, Sister Maureen also started a Sports Camp for youth.
