Biography
Sister Maureen Ann was born Jeanette Catherine McCarthy on August 23, 1928. She died on July 6, 2018. She was 89 years old and had been a Sister of Providence for 71 years.
Sister Maureen Ann entered the Congregation after graduating from high school and professed first and final vows on August 15, 1949 and 1954, respectively.
She graduated from Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College with a bachelor’s degree in elementary education, and also earned a master’s degree in education from Indiana State University.
Her first teaching ministry came in 1949 at St. Clement, Lansdowne, Maryland. Sister Maureen Ann also taught at schools in Indiana, North Carolina, Illinois and Texas, for a total of 47 years. She returned to the Woods in 1997, but spent the next 21 years with a ministry of driving.
Sister Maureen Ann was a big fan of sports, especially Notre Dame football and her beloved Chicago Cubs.
