Biography
Sister Mary Regis was born Marie Eva O’Kane on Oct. 14, 1912. She died on Jan. 16, 2005. She was 92 years old and had been a Sister of Providence for 75 years.
Sister Mary Regis entered the Congregation on July 25, 1929. She professed first vows on March 1, 1932, and final vows on Aug. 15, 1937.
Her teaching ministry began in 1932 at St. Angela, Chicago. She taught in other classrooms in schools in Illinois, as well as schools in Indiana, Massachusetts and Maryland. She returned to the Woods in 1978 and began the ministry of coordinator for the Our Lady of Providence Association and the Blessed Sacrament Association. She officially retired in 1985, but continued to volunteer as the Owens Hall phone room operator.
She was known to be an avid reader.
