Biography
Sister Mary Pius was born Helen Marie Regnier on April 28, 1914. She died on Nov. 27, 2005. She was 91 years old and had been a Sister of Providence for 73 years.
Sister Mary Pius entered the Congregation on Jan. 23, 1932. She professed first vows in August of 1934 and final vows in August of 1940.
Her high school teaching ministry took her to schools in Illinois and Indiana. In 1947, she began a ministry for several years as teacher and then principal at St. Simon, Washington, Indiana. In 1966, Sister Mary Pius was elected General Superior of the Congregation, a position she maintained for 10 years. She came home to the Woods in 1993.
She was known to be an excellent teacher of boys and it is believed her lifelong love of sports helped in this capacity.
