Biography
Sister Mary Magdalen was born Armella Ann Schwartz on Sept. 26, 1922. She died on Jan. 16, 2010. She was 87 years old and had been a Sister of Providence for 68 years.
Sister Mary Magdalen entered the Congregation on Feb. 2, 1941. She professed first and final vows on Jan. 23, 1945 and 1950, respectively.
Her teaching ministry began in 1945 at Holy Cross, Indianapolis. Sister Mary Magdalen also taught at other schools in Indiana, as well as schools in Massachusetts, Missouri and Illinois. From 1977 to 1979, she ministered as registrar at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College. She also ministered in holistic health care before returning home to the Woods in 2000.
Sister Mary Magdalen was known as “Mary Mag” in the Congregation.
