Biography
Sister Mary Julia was born Wilma Jane Cummings on Feb. 3, 1922. She died on Oct. 28, 2009. She was 87 years old and had been a Sister of Providence for 70 years.
Sister Mary Julia entered the Congregation on Jan. 5, 1939. She professed first and final vows on Aug. 15, 1941 and 1947, respectively.
For more than 30 years, Sister Mary Julia ministered in primary education as a teacher or principal at schools in Illinois, Indiana and Oklahoma. She also served in parish ministry in Indiana before ministering as the director of the Learning Center at St. John, Newburgh, Ind. She also spent six years as a parish minister of care at Immaculate Conception Parish, Chicago. She returned to the Woods in 1998.
Sister Mary Julia enjoyed traveling, visiting England, France and Italy, in addition to visiting family in Las Vegas and Florida.
