Biography
Sister Mary Isabelle was born Isabelle Mary Welsh on June 30, 1918. She died on Dec. 25, 2010. She was 92 years old and had been a Sister of Providence for 74 years.
Sister Mary Isabelle entered the Congregation on Jan. 11, 1936. She professed first and final vows on Aug. 15, 1938 and 1944, respectively.
Her teaching ministry began at Immaculate Conception, Norwood Park, Illinois, in 1938. She taught at schools in Indiana, as well as Washington, D.C. and Los Angeles. In 1979, she began a new ministry as a house mother and parish visitor at St. Elizabeth Home and St. Philip Neri Parish, Indianapolis. In addition, from 1981 to 1987, she ministered as a secretary at Fatima Retreat House, Indianapolis. She returned home to the Woods in 1987.
Sister Mary Isabelle was born in Scotland, but her family moved to Indiana when she was 2.
