Biography

Sister Mary Irene was born Eleanor Lillian Krohn on Oct. 12, 1914. She died on March 12, 2005. She was 90 years old and had been a Sister of Providence for 71 years.

Sister Mary Irene entered the Congregation on Feb. 11, 1934. She professed first and final vows on Aug. 15, 1936 and 1942, respectively.

Sister Mary Irene began her teaching ministry in 1936 at St. Catherine, Fort Wayne, Ind. She taught at other schools in Indiana, as well as schools in North Carolina, Massachusetts and Illinois. In 1979, she started to serve as a parish minister at St. Joseph Parish, Shelbyville, Ind. She also ministered as a residence assistant at Simeon House, Indianapolis. She returned to the Woods in 1981.
