Biography
Sister Mary Imelda was born Mary Elizabeth on Aug. 28, 1918. She died on July 12, 2017. She was 98 years old and had been a Sister of Providence for 78 years.
Sister Mary Imelda entered the Congregation on Feb. 2, 1939. She professed first vows in 1941 and final vows in 1947.
Always wanting to instruct children, Sister Mary Imelda ministered as a teacher for 53 years in Chicago, Indiana and Maryland. She taught primary grades for two decades and intermediate grades for 33 years.
One of her greatest passions in her life was her love of Notre Dame Football. She also had received a signed football by former Fightin’ Irish coach Lou Holtz.
Several Sisters of Providence celebrated Jubilees in December. They were honored at a celebration with the Sisters of Providence General Council.
