Sister Mary Germaine Grojean

Biography

Sister Mary Germaine was born Germaine Emma Grojean on Sept. 17, 1915. She died on Sept. 24, 2004. She was 89 years old and had been a Sister of Providence for 63 years.

Sister Mary Germaine entered the Congregation on Feb. 2, 1941. She professed first and final vows on Aug. 15, 1943 and 1949, respectively.

Sister Mary Germaine’s teaching ministry began in 1944 at St. Joseph, Hammond, Ind. She taught in other classrooms in Indiana, as well as California and Illinois. Sister Mary Germaine retired from teaching in 1989, but continued to provide convent service in Chicago until 1991, when she returned to the Woods.

By nature, Sister Mary Germaine was a “natural caregiver.” She loved being able to attend to others in need.
