Biography
Sister Mary Evangelista was born Elizabeth Herber on July 8, 1903. She died on Nov. 1, 2006. She was 103 years old and had been a Sister of Providence for 84 years.
Sister Mary Evangelista entered the Congregation on Feb. 10, 1922. She professed first and final vows on Aug. 15, 1924 and 1929, respectively.
Sister Mary Evangelista ministered in education for more than 60 years, beginning at St. Patrick, Indianapolis, in 1923. She also ministered in other classrooms in Indiana, as well as Illinois and California. She also served in parish ministry from 1984 to 1988 in Indianapolis before returning to the Woods in 1988 to minister as a volunteer.
She was known as Vangie and she enjoyed parties, dancing, singing, and just having an all-around good time.
