Biography
Sister Mary Esther was born Alice Muriel Larkin on Aug. 29, 1914. She died on Dec. 1, 2006. She was 82 years old and had been a Sister of Providence for 74 years.
Sister Mary Esther entered the Congregation on Aug. 15, 1932. She professed first vows on Jan. 23, 1935, and final vows on Aug. 15, 1940.
She began her teaching ministry at Immaculate Conception, Norwood Park, Ill., in 1935. She taught in other schools in Illinois, as well as schools in Indiana. For two years, she ministered at the motherhouse in the greenhouse and as a nurses’ aide and receptionist. In 1983, she ministered as a librarian and tutor at St. Patrick, Fort Wayne, Ind., and St. Lawrence, Indianapolis. She returned to the Woods in 1989.
She was known to be an excellent teacher who was always organized and well prepared.
