Biography
Sister Mary Esther, formerly Sister Francis Gertrude, was born on April 11, 1915. She died on Nov. 19, 2016. She was 101 years old and had been a Sister of Providence for 83 years.
Sister Mary Esther entered the Congregation on Aug. 15, 1933. She professed final vows in 1942.
Sister Mary Esther ministered as a teacher in schools in Indiana, Illinois and California. In 1979, she began a ministry at a Retreat Center in Orange, California, and in 1983, she began serving at St. Elizabeth in Van Nuys, California. She returned to the Woods in 1995.
“Mary Lane Road” in Saint Mary-of-the-Woods Village is named after her.
