Biography
Sister Mary Ellen was born Margaret Eileen Kilday on Feb. 14, 1913. She died on May 17, 2008. She was 95 years old and had been a Sister of Providence for 76 years.
Sister Mary Ellen entered the Congregation on Feb. 14, 1932. She professed first and final vows on Aug. 15, 1934 and 1940, respectively.
Sister Mary Ellen ministered as a junior high or high school teacher for 40 years, beginning in 1934 at St. Catherine, Indianapolis. She taught in other schools in Indiana, as well as schools in Illinois, Washington, D.C., Massachusetts and Florida. In 1974, she began a ministry as an educational consultant with Diener & Associates in North Carolina. She also served as the interim superintendent for the Catholic school system in the Diocese of Raleigh, N.C. Sister Mary Ellen returned to the Woods in 1997.
Sister Mary Ellen was known for her love of life and her good sense of humor.
