Biography

Sister Marie Consolata was born Mary Gallagher on Dec. 2, 1914, in Ireland. She died on July 24, 2008. She was 93 years old and had been a Sister of Providence for 76 years.

Sister Marie Consolata entered the Congregation on June 13, 1932. She professed first and final vows on Jan. 23, 1935 and 1941, respectively.

Sister Marie Consolata ministered as a teacher, beginning at St. Mary Carmelite, Joliet, Ill., in 1935. She also taught in Chicago, Indiana, Washington, D.C. and Maryland. She also ministered as a library assistant at Mother Theodore Guerin High School, River Grove, Ill., before returning to the Woods in 2002.

It was said that Sister Marie Consolata was an avid student and took every advantage to develop her “keen intellect.”
