Biography
Sister Margaret Ellen was born Ellen Margaret-Mary O’Connor on June 24, 1917. She died on Dec. 3, 2006. She was 89 years old and had been a Sister of Providence for 72 years.
Sister Margaret Ellen entered the Congregation on July 19, 1934. She professed first and final vows on Jan. 23, 1934 and 1943, respectively.
Her teaching ministry began in 1937 at St. Mel, Chicago. She taught in other schools in Chicago, as well as schools in Indiana, Washington, D.C. and Maryland. In 1972, she began a ministry as a librarian at Immaculate Conception, Chicago, before ministering in other libraries at Mother Theodore Guerin High School, River Grove, Ill., and Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College. She returned in 1992 and returned home to the Woods.
Sister Margaret Ellen was described as being happy and upbeat while never complaining.
