Biography
Sister Joseph Clare was born Josephine Mary McCarthy on Oct. 28, 1921. She died on Dec. 12, 2011. She was 90 years old and had been a Sister of Providence for 72 years.
Sister Joseph Clare entered the Congregation on Jan. 18, 1939. She professed first and final vows on Aug. 15, 1941 and 1947, respectively.
Sister Joseph Clare began her ministry in education in 1940 at St. Mary’s Village School. For more than 50 years, she taught at other schools in Indiana, as well as Illinois, California and Missouri. After retiring from the classroom in 1994, Sister Joseph Clare served in ministry of care at Immaculate Conception Parish, Chicago. She returned to the Woods in 1998.
She was known as a good listener and conversationalist who enjoyed laughter.
