Biography
Sister Gertrude Therese was born Gertrude Rita Garvey on March 27, 1921. She died on March 15, 2006. She was 84 years old and had been a Sister of Providence for 63 years.
Sister Gertrude Therese entered the Congregation on Feb. 2, 1941. She professed first vows on Aug. 15, 1943, and final vows on Jan. 23, 1949.
Sister Gertrude Therese began her teaching ministry in music at St. Philip Neri, Indianapolis, in 1943. She ministered in other schools in Indiana, as well as Washington, D.C., Massachusetts, Maryland and Illinois. She also ministered at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College from 1971 to 1978, while also serving as a caseworker and as a pastoral associate. She returned to the Woods in 1997.
Sister Gertrude Therese was known for practical jokes and her quick wit.
