Biography
Sister Frances Joan was born Rosemary Baker on Feb. 23, 1916. She died Oct. 26, 2013. She was 97 years old and had been a Sister of Providence for 81 years.
Sister Frances Joan entered the Congregation on Jan. 27, 1932. She professed first and final vows on Aug. 15, 1934 and 193, respectively.
Sister Frances Joan ministered in elementary education for 52 years in schools in Massachusetts, Indiana, Illinois and in North Carolina. Upon returning to the Woods at age 70 to “retire,” she continued ministered in education, health care and more. Her most cherished ministry after “retiring” was preparing children for first communion at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods Village Church.
It has been said that Sister Frances Joan kept a list of each of those children’s names.
