Biography
Sister Estelle was born Joan Estelle Scully on Oct. 10, 1926. She died on March 20, 2013. She was 86 years old and had been a Sister of providence for 64 years.
Sister Estelle entered the Congregation in 1949. She professed first and final vows on Jan. 23, 1952 and 1957, respectively.
From 1952 until 1961, she ministered as a teacher in Illinois, Indiana and California, before returning to Saint Mary-of-the-Woods to minister in the English Department at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College. She also served as the Alumnae Director. She also ministered as a film critic for America Magazine and as a director of communications for many dioceses. She returned to the Woods in 1997.
Sister Estelle was known to have an affinity for Hershey’s bars.
