Biography
Sister Ellen Catherine was born Anna Conroy on Oct. 15, 1913. She died on June 4, 2011. She was 97 years old and had been a Sister of Providence for 81 years.
Sister Ellen Catherine entered the Congregation on Feb. 11, 1930. She professed first vows on Aug. 15, 1932, and final vows on Jan. 23, 1937.
Sister Ellen Catherine ministered in education for more than 50 years. She taught at schools in Illinois, North Carolina and Indiana. Following retiring from teaching, she ministered at the convent at Immaculate Conception in Chicago. Sister Ellen Catherine returned to the Woods in 2002.
In her final years in Mother Theodore Hall West, Sister Ellen Catherine was known to respond to staff asking how she was by saying, “I’m all right, ma!”
