Biography
Sister Dorothy Marie was born Genevieve Lucille on May 6, 1923. She died Friday, Nov. 14, 2014. She was 91 years old and had been a Sister of Providence for 75 years.
Sister Dorothy Marie attended the Juniorate associated with Marywood High School in Anaheim, Calif., and entered the novitiate on Feb. 2, 1939. She made her first and final profession on the same date, Aug. 15, 1939 and 1941, respectively. She arrived at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods for the first time in 1946.
Sister Dorothy Marie spent 66 years ministering in schools, mostly as a teacher, but she did minister as a vice principal and principal. Fifty-six of those 66 years were spent in California, ministering in all eight schools we had.
Sister Dorothy Marie’s knack for cooking delicious meals was known Congregation-wide. She was also known to have made all of her own clothes.
