Biography

Sister Dorothy was born Dorothy Mary Karier on May 27, 1921. She died on April 13, 2007. She was 85 years old and had been a Sister of Providence for 68 years.

Sister Dorothy entered the Congregation on Jan. 5, 1939. She professed first and final vows on Aug. 15, 1941 and 1947, respectively.

Sister Dorothy ministered in education as a teacher and principal for nearly three decades. She ministered in schools in Massachusetts, Indiana, California and Illinois. She also served as a parish minister and co-administrator in Texas, serving a rural area of 25,000 square miles. In 1991, she and her sister, Sister Margaret, began a ministry as pastoral associates in Iowa. She returned to the Woods in 1996.

Sister Dorothy was known for her patience and kindness.
