Biography

Sister Delia, formerly Sister Margaret Cecile, was born Delia Veronica Leonard on Sept. 17, 1921. She died on April 16, 2008. She was 86 years old and had been a Sister of Providence for 58 years.

Sister Delia entered the Congregation on July 22, 1949. She professed first and final vows on Jan. 23, 1952 and 1957, respectively.

Sister Delia’s teaching ministry began in 1952 at St. John the Baptist, Newburgh, Ind. She taught in other schools in Indiana. In addition, she ministered for one year as the rectory secretary and tutor at St. Anthony Parish, Indianapolis, before ministering for several years at St. John, Robstown. She also ministered in the Financial Aid Office and the WED program at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College.

She retired in 1992, but never really stopped ministering to those in need.
