Biography
Sister Claretta was born Celine Burbine on July 31, 1910. She died on Dec. 4, 2006. She was 96 years old and had been a Sister of Providence for 78 years.
Sister Claretta entered the Congregation on July 18, 1928. She professed first vows on Feb. 24, 1931, and final vows on Aug. 15, 1936.
Sister Claretta’s first ministry was in 1931, serving the Infirmary. Her first ministry in teaching was at St. Benedict, Terre Haute. She also taught in schools in various other locations in Indiana, as well as North Carolina, Maryland and Massachusetts. She returned to the Woods in 1988.
Upon returning to the Woods, Sister Claretta continued to knit items for the Providence Alumnae Association and bake whenever needed.
