Biography
Sister Catherine Hayes, formerly Sister Catherine Ursula, was born on Nov. 4, 1916. She died on July 18, 2006. She was 89 years old and had been a Sister of Providence for 70 years.
Sister Catherine entered the Congregation on Feb. 8, 1936. She professed first and final vows on Aug. 15, 1938 and 1943, respectively. When she entered the Congregation, her mother’s sister, Sister Mary Basiline Booker (RIP), and her cousin, Sister Xavier McCabe (RIP), were also members of the Community.
Sister Catherine began her teaching ministry in 1938 at St. Mary, Richmond, Ind. She also taught in other classrooms in Indiana, as well as Illinois, California, Washington, D.C., Providence College in Taiwan and Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College. She retired in 1987.
Sister Catherine had a wonderful sense of humor.
