Biography
Sister Anne, formerly Sister Dennis, was born Teresa Anne Doherty on May 6, 1928. She died on Feb. 3, 2013. She was 84 years old and had been a Sister of Providence for 67 years.
Sister Ann entered the Congregation on Jan. 9, 1946. She professed first and final vows on Aug. 15, 1948 and 1953, respectively.
For 20 years, Sister Anne ministered as an educator, teaching in schools in Illinois and Indiana, as well as spending six years as a principal. She also ministered as an associate professor of psychology at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College and as a staff psychologist at Vigo County Guidance Club. She also ministered at Hamilton Center in Terre Haute and as an associate professor of pastoral psychology at Weston School of Theology in Cambridge, Mass. In 1981, she was elected as the Congregation’s 14th General Superior.
Following her term in office, she ministered for 18 more years at several locations as a clinical and school psychologist. She returned to the Woods in 1998.
Sister Anne is remembered as being quite mischievous.
