Biography
Sister Alma Marie was born Jennie Earus on July 31, 1923. She died on Jan. 26, 2005. She was 81 years old and had been a Sister of Providence for 62 years.
Sister Alma Marie entered the Congregation on July 20, 1942. She professed first and final vows on Jan. 23, 1945 and 1950, respectively.
Sister Alma Marie’s first teaching ministry was in 1945 at Marywood, Evanston, Ill. She taught at many other schools in Illinois as well as classrooms in schools in Indiana, Maryland, New Hampshire, Massachusetts and Washington, D.C. She also ministered as a nurse’s aide at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods from 1979 to 1981 before heading to the East Coast. She returned to the Woods in 1999.
Sister Alma Marie did not come from a Catholic family, but after her family moved to Chelsea, Mass., she came into contact with the Sisters of Providence.
