Days of Prayerful Service (a parent’s prayer)

Dear God,
The sun rises. My busy day begins.
You’ve placed these tasks before me
And shown me ways to serve.
Let this be a Martha / Mary day,
A day of work and prayer combined.
The phone rings. The baby cries.
The school child asks for answers.
The mail arrives. The bills appear.
The laundry piles. The cooking waits.
House-cleaning is on hold.
The sun sets. My busy day is done.
Calls answered, baby fed, homework checked,
Bills paid, laundry washed, dusting done.
Groceries in and supper planned
Some quiet moments seized for rest, for me.
Amen, amen
In short, a Martha / Mary day
Another day of prayerful service
