Get to know Providence Associate Brad Crites

Published on June 2, 2021

…way of life at home. In what ways is the relationship life-giving? The Providence Community, for me, is three things: a breath of fresh air, a bringing of my faith journey full-circle and a calling toward future mission. It is wonderful to find an open-minded group that shares the command of Jesus to love God and neighbor in a vibrant and joyful way. Being open to all, I can honor my Catholic faith and my non-Catholic upbringing. The Community inspires…

…lifestyle the Congregation offers? Community lifestyle is very important to me. It’s one of the main things that drew me to religious life. I really wanted to live in a community of people who wants to grow in its relationship with our loving God and out of that relationship, to help transform the world for the better. I know that’s a very broad statement. Much like a family, living in community isn’t easy. I find myself being challenged to look…

Gospel: Luke 12:35-40 Jesus said to his disciples: “Gird your loins and light your lamps and be like servants who await their masters’ return from a wedding, ready to open immediately when he comes and knocks. Recognizing Jesus

Published on August 19, 2012

…is the good news proclaimed for us today? I find my attention drawn to the words “they were restrained from recognizing him.” Maybe for those of us who have our own moments of not being able to detect the presence of Jesus in our daily lives, it’s good to know we have company. Part of the good news for me is that others besides myself haven’t always liked the way our God chooses to “free us.” Being set free is…

At home in the Catholic Church with the SPs

Published on May 1, 2013

…of chaos. The Catholic Church provided stability, and I held on tightly. The ground of life was rocky, but God and the Church provided for me a solid haven. It was the spirituality of the Woods that drew me to Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College and the Sisters of Providence in the first place: the obvious holiness of this place. It felt safe. It turned out it was safe: safe enough for me to loosen my blind grasp enough to learn and…

Sister Mary Maxine Teipen

…Maxine describe her, they use these same terms: She was intelligent and gave sound advice, but was also warm, understanding and compassionate. A gracious, kind person, she never complained. She was always concerned about others. Even in her last days, although she clung to the friends at her bedside, she worried that they needed to go home and rest. And she lived the gospel without compromise. She is described as a straight arrow; you always knew what she thought, where…
