WVC to host Spring Plant Sale
All gardening and plant enthusiasts are invited to stop by White Violet Center for Eco-Justice at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods, Indiana, from noon-5 p.m., on Friday, April 30, and Saturday, May 1, for the Center’s upcoming Spring Plant Sale.
Plan to shop for organically grown vegetable, flower and herb plants at the White Violet Farm greenhouse. Cash and credit cards will be accepted.
White Violet Center Garden Manager John-Michael Elmore said the Center is pleased to be able to offer this event.
“We’d love to help folks get their gardens going,” John-Michael said. “As far as making it an annual event, I guess that depends on the response. COVID-19 has certainly sparked an interest in backyard gardening.
“The idea was in response to the cancellation of Earth Day at the Woods,” he continued. “COVID-19 caused the onsite celebration to be canceled for the second year in a row. We typically would sell potted plants at the event. So, in order to still provide the community with organically grown plant starts, we set up this two-day event.”
John-Michael added there will be plenty of produce available during the sale.
“For veggies, we will have tomatoes – cherry and slicing – along with sweet and a few hot peppers, kale, chard, cucumbers and zucchini,” he said. “For herbs, we will have oregano, thyme, cilantro, dill, marjoram, basil and parsley. For flowers, we aren’t sure yet. We’ll have a grand mix of colors, textures, and bloom sizes, but the specific varieties that will be available are still undecided.”
