Saint Mother Theodore Guerin founded the Sisters of Providence of Saint Mary-of-the-Woods and Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College in 1840. She was born in France in 1798 and died in the United States in 1856, having lived the last 16 years of her life as a missionary teacher and healer in the Indiana wilderness.
