Pearlette Springer

Providence Associate Dr. Pearlette Springer was born and raised in Gary, Indiana, as one of eight children. She is presently an adjunct instructor at Southern New Hampshire University, a member of the Justice Coordinating Commission, and co-lead of the Racial Equity and Equality task force. Pearlette previously served as the coordinator of Black Catholic Ministry for the Archdiocese of Indianapolis and the Diocese of Gary, and the Sisters of Providence’s and Pax Christi USA anti-racism teams. She has an undergraduate degree in African and African American Studies, a master’s degree in theology, a master’s in philosophy, and a doctorate degree in family studies and strategic interventions. Dr. Pearlette is passionate about the intersection of social justice and racial diversity.

Why is it so difficult to talk about racism?

People of Color internalized their oppression as a means of survival. They developed strategies, actions and emotions to help live within these disadvantages. We learned that we had to be better, try harder, endure more.
