Ask Sister Dina: Two requests for online database of sisters
Dear Sister Dina,
I’m proud that the Sisters of Providence ran and taught in my grade school, St. Joseph Academy, and my high school, Costa Catholic High School, of Galesburg, Illinois. I know where my excellent French teacher is now, I see her mentioned in your Facebook posts, Sister Denise Wilkinson, and I was so glad she was able to spend extended time in France recently. But I don’t remember all the names of the good Sisters who taught in these schools. Have the Sisters ever considered creating a database by school, year, and grade or subject taught, to help your grateful former students find out what happened to our favorite teachers?

Good morning Sister Dina,
My name is Dr. Robert Tucker (retired) and I have but one question for you. I was very interested in knowing if there is a directory of professed sisters that you can send me or I can download off the Sisters of Providence website. I know that there are many sister congregations in the U.S. who have such a directory available for download on its website. Thank you very much for your assistance with my question.

Dear Michael and Robert,
Thank you for sharing your gratitude for the education the Sisters of Providence have given you! It is truly a gift to us to be remembered so graciously.
We do have a Sisters’ database which provides that information you mention. It is, however, not available to the public, as some of our sisters wish to keep their information private. But not to worry, there is another option! Perhaps the quickest way to find information on an individual sister is through the Find-A-Sister capability on our website here. Here you can search by name or key word to find information on our living sisters and our sisters who have died within the past several years.
If you don’t find what you are looking for there, you can also submit a request to the Sisters of Providence Archives Department by filling out the Archives Research Request Form or you can contact them by phone at 812-535-2881 or by email at archives@spsmw.org.
I hope this helps. Again, thank you both for your inquiries. Please know that we hold you in prayer.
Peace and blessings,
Sister Dina
