Come and See life as a Sister of Providence

Sisters in formation take women attending a recent Come and See weekend retreat on a tour of the Woods.

“I love the sense of community and I love the progressiveness. There is so much love and there is so much joy.” These were the words of a young woman after she attended a Sisters of Providence Come and See weekend retreat.

Our twice-a-year Come and See weekend retreats offer single, Catholic women between the ages of 18 and 42 the opportunity to come and experience life first hand with the Sisters of Providence. Women are invited to stay with and pray with the sisters while asking any questions they may have, learning about what it is like to be a sister today and praying about where God might be calling them.

Thanks to generous support from our donors, we are able to offer these opportunities at no cost to the women attending. Thank you for supporting us as we encourage the next generation of sisters!

Inspired

“There is something about the spirituality of the SPs and the way they talk about God and pray that attracts me. It is something I don’t experience elsewhere with practicing Catholics. I can’t really explain it, but I like it a lot. I also love the joyful, welcoming, and fun nature of the sisters and their work for social justice,” said one past participant.

“I love the time we spend with the young sisters in formation. Getting to ask them questions about what is expected was really neat,” said another.

Women who attend the weekend have opportunity to participate in various prayer experiences, small group discussions and one-on-one conversations with a sister mentor. They learn what the process is like to become a sister, hear sisters share their vocation stories and learn about Saint Mother Theodore Guerin. Saturday afternoon each woman can choose options that most interest her, from a labyrinth prayer walk, a tour of the grounds or of White Violet Center for Eco-Justice, Eucharistic adoration or a one-on-one meeting with a spiritual director.
