2015 Providence Food Pantry update

Recently, Providence Food Pantry Director Sister Joseph Fillenwarth sent a letter to sponsors of the organization, detailing end-of-year statistics.
“We thank God for leading us through another year at the pantry,” Sister Joseph said.
According to Sister Joseph, the pantry helped assist 3,944 families in 2015 – a total of 14,756 individuals. She said that eclipsed the 2014 totals by more than 200 families.
“This shows what can be done if we join together as the Body of Christ and do it all in His name,” Sister Joseph said. “This is God’s work and we are only His ‘support team.’”
There are a total of 34 volunteers who help support the pantry. No one receives a salary. Keith and Jamie Richey, from Accurate Insulation, do not charge the pantry for rent, so all the contribution can be used for food items for the clients.
The Annual Walk – sponsored by St. Mary’s Village Church – and the Annual Basket Raffle, sponsored by Providence Food Pantry Board members, contribute so much to the overall expenses for food. The pantry also conducts rummage sales often to help pay for utilities.

Providence Food Pantry is located at 707 W. National Ave., West Terre Haute. It is open from 8 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., every Thursday.
Sponsors of the pantry include The Helping Hands, First Assembly of God Church, Bethany United Church of Christ, Bethesda United Methodist Church, Christ United Methodist Church, First United Methodist Church, Smith Park United Methodist Church, St. Mark’s United Church of Christ, St. Mary’s Village Parish, Emmanuel United Methodist Church, The Sisters of Providence, the West Terre Haute IGA and many other organizations.
