New statue of Saint Mother Theodore Guerin with children dedicated

This is an up-close image of the statue created by Providence Associate Teresa Clark.

All Saints Cemetery in Des Plaines, Ill., commissioned a statue from Providence Associate Teresa Clark, who is also the artist of the official Saint Mother Theodore Guerin statue recently installed at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods. (A really beautiful miniature version of the official statue is available through the Linden Leaf Gifts.)

The All Saints Cemetery statue features Saint Mother Theodore with two young girls and one of my favorite quotes from her. She wrote this bit of advice to her sisters on mission, “Love the children first, then teach them.”

I certainly felt that Saint Mary-of-the-woods was a special place when I visited recently. I couldn’t have been more impressed.

I am wanting to get information regarding commissioning one of these in Evansville where the sisters of providence were a very important part of our parish. I graduated from SMWC in 1999. Could someone contact me?

Thanks for asking, Marcy. I think a good place to start would be with Sister Jan Craven. Her email address is jcraven@spsmw.org I will also pass your contact information along to her.
