Who are the Sisters of Providence?

The Sisters of Providence of Saint Mary-of-the-Woods are a Congregation of nearly 350 Roman Catholic women religious (sisters) who serve in a variety of ministries throughout the U.S. and Asia. Our motherhouse is located at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods, Ind., on 1,200 beautiful wooded acres, just northwest of downtown Terre Haute.

Saint Mother Theodore Guerin founded the Congregation in 1840 and the sisters live out her legacy of furthering God’s loving plans by devoting themselves to serving others through works of love, mercy and justice.
