GEORGETOWN, Ind. – Providence Self-Sufficiency Ministries (PSSM) celebrated 20 years of success Friday, Sept. 19, with an open house, greeting those in attendance with a theme of “Past, Present and Future.”

Those who came to the celebration walked through the PSSM Senior Center and had the chance to see photographs and newspaper clippings regarding PSSM, from its past to its present.

The conclusion of the small tour marked the announcement of a capital campaign to raise funds for two new buildings to be built at the facility.

Sister Barbara Ann Zeller, CEO of PSSM, said the campaign – for an estimated $2 million – is intended to raise the funds for two additional villas for the facility.

Both villas will be built on the west side of the campus.

One villa will be a replica of the others currently on the campus. It will be 7,100-square feet in size, while offering homes to 10 elders ages 62 and older. There will be private bedrooms with full private baths centered around a large living room with a fireplace, open kitchen and dining room.

Sister Barbara Ann said people who live in the villas do so in what she calls a “small house” concept, the only one of its kind in the state. Those living in the villas live together, eat together and bond together.

The second villa will be smaller in size and will house only eight people. It is intended to accommodate elderly people who are suffering from memory loss and dementia.

The plan calls for the building to be 6,000-square feet in size. Dining room furnishings will accommodate four persons. In addition, plans call for gliders and rockers to be placed in the hearth and living areas.

Additional features in the smaller building will include murals and a large patio and garden area equipped with resting stations and more.

The smaller building calls for a staff-to-elder ratio of 1-to-2.

PSSM has already conducted the silent portion of the campaign, and has raised more than $1.5 million.

PSSM officials stated the need for the specialized villa is currently supported by 10 people living in the facility, with an additional 10 people on a waiting list.

The facility is located at8037 Unruh Dr., Georgetown, Indiana. For more information on PSSM, or to help with the current campaign, call 812-951-1878 or email sbarbara@pssmsi.org.
