Providence Associates orientation Oct. 20, 2012
Saturday, Oct. 20, was an important day for a couple dozen individuals who have begun the process to become Providence Associates.
Sister Diane Mason, director of the Providence Associates Relationship, welcomed the candidates and shared information with them about many facets of the journey. Sister Dawn Tomaszewski, the General Council’s liaison, called the relationship between associates and the sisters “a wonderful gift to each other.” Each candidate and companion had an opportunity to say a few words about themselves, their relationship to the Sisters of Providence and why they are seeking to enter into the relationship. The stories were powerful, often detailing a relationship with a relative who was a sister, a former teacher, a personal experience with a sister on mission, or embracing the spirit of Saint Mary-of-the-Woods on a personal visit. Many outbursts of laughter and some touching moments with tears seasoned the commentaries. After Mass and dinner, Debbie Dillow, assistant director, explained how the relationship works and what to expect in the coming year. Candidates also had time for private conversations with their companions.
