Metal grates like this one are found raised on either side of the altar. Originally, the rooms behind them were used for infirm sisters to attend Mass without leaving their residences. The Church of the Immaculate Conception is on the motherhouse grounds of the Sisters of Providence of Saint Mary-of-the-Woods, Indiana.

This painting in the semi-dome of the Church of the Immaculate Conception was done by Tadeusz Żukotyński (or Thaddeus von Zukotynski). It is a fresco that took Żukotyński three months to complete. It represents the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary. She stands on a globe supported by clouds with Saint Michael and Saint Gabriel on either side.
