DESCRIPTION:Single women ages 18-42 are invited to pray with the Sisters of Providence by Zoom. SUMMARY:Evolution of Wisdom Thought
DESCRIPTION:Wisdom thought has\, in some ways\, evolved since “The Epic of Gilgamesh\,” the oldest extant literary work\, in other ways\, it has remained similar or even the same\, through to the 20th century. Each society — and the religions it has fostered — has produced its own unique form of wisdom while\, at the same time\, deriving from and building on some of the same or similar ethical and spiritual principles that have come before it. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDuring these two-hour Saturday morning classes\, principles from different societies and religious traditions will be examined and discussed. Those attending will be given the opportunity to read the short classics in highly accessible translations ahead of time\, which will constitute the basis for in-class lectures and for the discussions that follow. \n\n\n\nJoin us and Dr. Arthur Feinsod for the upcoming Evolution of Wisdom Thought series\, from 9:30-11:30 a.m.\, on Saturday\, May 18\, and concluding on June 22. Each session will take place in the Havlik Center in Providence Hall. \n\n\n\nThe fourth class will focus on Viktor Frankl’s “Man’s Search for Meaning.” Jumping to the 20th century\, we will discuss the book by Frankl\, the great Jewish psychologist\, who emerged from his Holocaust experience with a fierce drive to find his own particular life purpose which happened to involve helping others find their meaning and reasons for living. \n\n\n\nCost for each session of the series is $25. \n\n\n\nFor more information\, call 812-535-2952 or email provctr@spsmw.org.

DESCRIPTION:Nature can teach us and heal us. Join us for a guided meditation based in eco-spirituality (connecting with the Divine through nature). As we wander among the trees\, you will have the opportunity to connect with yourself and listen as the forest offers you guidance for your life. Leave feeling grounded and calm as you re-enter the world with more clarity and peace. \n\n\n\nThe trail is a mown path through the forest. It is considered an easy trail with uneven ground and some slight inclines and declines. You are encouraged to wear closed-toe shoes and dress according to the weather. This event may be canceled due to weather. Each society — and the religions it has fostered — has produced its own unique form of wisdom while\, at the same time\, deriving from and building on some of the same or similar ethical and spiritual principles that have come before it. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDuring these two-hour Saturday morning classes\, principles from five different societies and religious traditions will be examined and discussed. Those attending will be given the opportunity to read the short classics in highly accessible translations ahead of time\, which will constitute the basis for in-class lectures and for the discussions that follow. \n\n\n\nJoin us and Dr. Arthur Feinsod for the final Evolution of Wisdom Thought workshop\, from 9:30-11:30 a.m.\, on Saturday\, June 22. Each session will take place in the Community Room at Providence Hall. \n\n\n\nThe final session will focus on “Mohandas Gandhi’s Spirituality and Politics.” Staying in the 20th century but shifting to a Hindu perspective\, we will examine Gandhi’s spiritual principles and how they emerge from ancient ones set forth in “The Upanishads and The Bhagavad-Gita.”  \n\n\n\nWe will also look at Gandhi’s political philosophy of satyagraha and show its parallels with the civil disobedience tradition from Sophocles’ “Antigone\,” through Henry David Thoreau’s “On the Duty of Civil Disobedience\,” through Martin Luther King Jr.’s “Letter from a Birmingham Jail.” \n\n\n\nCost for each session of the series is $25. \n\n\n\nFor more information\, call 812-535-2952 or email provctr@spsmw.org.

DESCRIPTION:The Sisters of Providence of Saint Mary-of-the-Woods\, Indiana\, and Providence Associates invite persons of all faith traditions to join them in person or virtually for the Eucharistic Liturgy (Mass) at 11 a.m.\, on Thursday\, Oct. 3\, to celebrate the Feast Day of Saint Mother Theodore Guerin\, the eighth American Saint and foundress of the Sisters of Providence. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCelebrate the Feast Day of Saint Mother Theodore Guerin by joining the Congregation and Providence Associates for a special Mass. \n\n\n\nThe liturgy will take place in the Church of the Immaculate Conception at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods\, located about 10 minutes northeast of downtown Terre Haute. \n\n\n\nSaint Mother Theodore Guerin was canonized by Pope Benedict XVI on Oct. 15\, 2006. \n\n\n\nWatch online or join us in-person.

SUMMARY:Taizé Ecumenical Prayer Service at the Woods
DESCRIPTION:Taizé Prayer is a simple\, meditative form of worship for all spiritual seekers who would like to dwell deeply in God’s presence around and within us. Songs\, prayerful silence and short readings guide the focus of our prayer in a candle-lit environment.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nEach Taizé service includes prayer\, simple music\, a time for silence and inspirational readings. Song refrains are sung many times over as a prayer of the heart. \n\n\n\nJoin us monthly on the second Tuesday in person or via livestream by clicking here for this hour-long service\, based on a tradition from Taizé\, France.  \n\n\n\nAll are welcome to participate. \n\n\n\nThe 2024 theme is “A reason for our hope.” \n\n\n\nCost: Freewill donation
