SUMMARY:A Day of Rest at The Woods
DESCRIPTION:Would you like to create more peace in your life? There are messages we hear in our culture that suggest if we work harder\, we will produce more and do better. This can make us feel tired and disheartened. We can hear the need for rest if we listen to our bodies. If we listen to our hearts\, we might hear our Creator whisper that we are beloved images of the Divine. How can you listen? Do you need time to daydream\, nap\, walk in nature\, create and pray? \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThomas Keating offers that “God’s first language is silence.” A Day for Rest at The Woods is a day retreat of purposeful quiet and contemplation. Participants will have options to join contemplative prayer\, meet with a spiritual director\, spend time alone and rest in many sacred places at The Woods. \n\n\n\nThe cost is $75.00 and includes a private room\, a box lunch and spiritual direction. Lodging is available upon request for an additional fee. \n\n\n\nThe facilitators will be Sister Mary Montgomery\, SP\, Marilyn Webb\, PA and Bridget Mooney.

SUMMARY:Mystics and Fellowship
DESCRIPTION:Are you on a journey of self-discovery or are you seeking an encounter with the Divine? Do you hold questions about the world around you and your connection to it? SUMMARY:A Day of Rest at The Woods
DESCRIPTION:Would you like to create more peace in your life? There are messages we hear in our culture that suggest if we work harder\, we will produce more and do better. This can make us feel tired and disheartened. We can hear the need for rest if we listen to our bodies. If we listen to our hearts\, we might hear our Creator whisper that we are beloved images of the Divine. How can you listen? Do you need time to daydream\, nap\, walk in nature\, create and pray? \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThomas Keating offers that “God’s first language is silence.” A Day of Rest at The Woods is a day retreat of purposeful quiet and contemplation.

DESCRIPTION:Single women from ages 18-42 are invited to join together in this special virtual event that takes place monthly on the 7th day of every month at 7 p.m. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nEach month will focus on a universal topic led by a Sister of Providence where attendees are welcomed and encouraged to bring prayer intentions\, share an experience or give wisdom gained through experience with the monthly theme. \n\n\n\nWe want to empower and aid one another in life’s challenges and struggles and also celebrate our joys as a community united. \n\n\n\nLife can be difficult and no one should carry their troubles or concerns alone.  Together we can learn to navigate life gracefully\, from the darkest of personal storms to the most trying of circumstances. \n\n\n\nWe can learn to lean in faith on God’s providence and can find help and comfort in one another. \n\n\n\nPlease see below for our topic discussions for 2024-2025\, beginning in September: \n\n\n\n1.    Faith  Saturday\, September 7 with Sister Su-Hsin (Rosa) Huang \n\n\n\n2.    Grief Monday\, October 7 with Sister Connie Kramer \n\n\n\n3.    Trust Thursday\, November 7 with Sister Evelyn Ovalles \n\n\n\n4.    Anger Saturday\, December 7 with Sister Paula Modaff \n\n\n\n5.    Vulnerability Tuesday\, January 7 with Sister Tracey Horan \n\n\n\n6.    Fear Friday\, February 7 with Sister Marsha Speth  \n\n\n\n7.    Hope Friday\, March 7 with Sister Ann Sullivan  \n\n\n\n8.    Shame Monday\, April 7 with Sister Barbara Sheehan \n\n\n\n9.    Joy Wednesday\, May 7  with Sister Betty Koressel   \n\n\n\n10. SUMMARY:Evolution of Wisdom Thought
DESCRIPTION:Wisdom thought has\, in some ways\, evolved since “The Epic of Gilgamesh\,” the oldest extant literary work\, in other ways\, it has remained similar or even the same\, through to the 20th century. Each society — and the religions it has fostered — has produced its own unique form of wisdom while\, at the same time\, deriving from and building on some of the same or similar ethical and spiritual principles that have come before it. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDuring these two-hour Saturday morning classes\, principles from five different societies and religious traditions will be examined and discussed. Those attending will be given the opportunity to read the short classics in highly accessible translations ahead of time\, which will constitute the basis for in-class lectures and for the discussions that follow. \n\n\n\nJoin us and Dr. Arthur Feinsod for the final Evolution of Wisdom Thought workshop\, from 9:30-11:30 a.m.\, on Saturday\, June 22. Each session will take place in the Community Room at Providence Hall. \n\n\n\nThe final session will focus on “Mohandas Gandhi’s Spirituality and Politics.” Staying in the 20th century but shifting to a Hindu perspective\, we will examine Gandhi’s spiritual principles and how they emerge from ancient ones set forth in “The Upanishads and The Bhagavad-Gita.” \n\n\n\nWe will also look at Gandhi’s political philosophy of satyagraha and show its parallels with the civil disobedience tradition from Sophocles’ “Antigone\,” through Henry David Thoreau’s “On the Duty of Civil Disobedience\,” through Martin Luther King Jr.’s “Letter from a Birmingham Jail.” \n\n\n\nCost for each session of the series is $25. \n\n\n\nFor more information\, call 812-535-2952 or email provctr@spsmw.org.
