You don’t need your passport to delight in a European-inspired treasure! Enjoy a tour of the Church of the Immaculate Conception, a large, Italian Renaissance Revival-style church located at the Woods. The church is just one of the buildings now listed in the National Register of Historic Places!
The inside of the church includes Carrara marble, colorful fresco paintings by Thaddeus von Zukoynski and stained glass windows from the Bavarian Art Institute of Munich. The cornerstone of the church was laid in 1886 and the church was consecrated in 1907.
Meet outside the Church of the Immaculate Conception doors to begin your guided tour by Sister Rosemary Nudd.
Sister Rosemary will explain the basic architectural features of the Church of the Immaculate Conception. You will tour the church inside and learn about the marbles, paintings, statues, stained glass windows and other features. Sister Rosemary will also share stories about the church’s construction as well as about Mother Mary Cleophas Foley, sixth General Superior of the Sisters of Providence from 1890 to 1926, who was greatly instrumental in the building and decoration of the church.”
Among other events during the day, there will be several “wandering times,” when you will be able to walk through the church in silence, observe and absorb and pray.
