Women Religious who have experienced any type of sexual abuse or trauma, are invited to Saint Mary-of-the-Woods for a weekend retreat that focuses on healing and empowerment.

This retreat is an opportunity for women religious to come together and share their experience with sexual abuse in a safe, restorative and anonymous environment.

In addition to sharing stories, participants will have an opportunity to learn more about recovery, healing and empowerment. There will also be time for quiet reflection, rest, artwork and connecting with other survivors. One on one counseling will be available for those in need of support.

Sister Paula Damiano, one of the facilitators for this retreat said “Abuse of this nature doesn’t discriminate and we realize that there are women religious (sisters and nuns) who have experienced sexual abuse in their lives, either before they entered their community, or after doing so. Like many women, sisters oftentimes feel stigmatized by the incident and are hesitant to speak about it.”

It is advisable that all participants of this weekend are already engaged in some type of one-on-one counseling prior to attending this retreat.

Price includes meals and lodging.
