Sisters welcome Providence Hua Mei!

The Sisters of Providence of Saint Mary-of-the-Woods, Indiana, and White Violet Center for Eco-Justice – a ministry of the Sisters of Providence – recently announced the birth of the newest member of the alpaca herd!

Providence Hua Mei

Providence Hua Mei was born on Monday, Oct. 17, 2022, to mother Providence Jean Raphael, and father Providence Pere. Hua Mei had her appearance sometime in the afternoon.

The name Hua Mei was chosen for a variety of reasons with the first being a tribute to the Sisters of Providence ongoing mission in Asia. More than 100 years ago, the Sisters of Providence were asked to help establish schools in Asia. Six sisters, led by Sister Marie Gratia Luking, arrived in Asia on Nov. 24, 1920. Within two months of arrival, they opened the Hua Mei School (Chinese-American School), a boarding school for girls.

Come out to White Violet Center to see Providence Hua Mei and all the other alpacas or consider adopting an alpaca!
